Judea Perl won the Turing prize in 2011 for contributions in artificial intelligence. I think we will see a number of people joining your "great minds" group from the AI field in the next 20 years.
AI seems to be doing ok, though you hear complaints about short-termism from there too. It's AHI (Augmenting Human Intelligence) that's largely been in a rut for decades.
