Well, seeing as the nomenclature is not the parent commenter's but Bezos's and seeing as how it's literally explained in the third paragraph of the link said commenter gave, I think there's little to explain.

He had some nerve asking a question, instead of reading the entire linked document!

Please don't rage and humiliate. Not cool. Not everyone is able to read HN regularly. Have some empathy.

I think that _was_ empathy, and don't see any "rage and humiliate" in it at all. Besides perhaps som passive-aggressive such at the parent post's implicit demand that the GP should have "read the entire linked document"... IOW, that was sarcasm. (Not that I've perfectly understood the rules here; does all sarcasm count as "rage and humiliate"?)

There's a big difference between not reading everything related to a topic and not even doing the most basic cursory search. Have you never heard of 'how to ask questions the smart way'? Notice how I'm not linking to anything? Do you think you'll have to read the whole Internet to know what I'm talking about?

You're right. At the same time I think some people want to post in a forum or talk to someone. Some people want conversation. I think that's ok.

I get annoyed when people ask something of others without having made a very basic effort themselves.

You'll notice for example that even my initial comment pointed the guy to the answer (i.e.: it's in the third paragraph of the link).

Now, both requirements aren't opposite, someone could have made a comment like this: I like Bezos's notion of a Day 2 company, how it differs from Day 1, etc.

Basically, I like people to show that they aren't asking someone else to do the work for them (or, if they are, at least they made some attempt).

That's at least as reasonable a position as the one you just expressed IMO.
