I ask about Pandoc in every Markdown thread, but only because I'm interested in the success of Markdown.
That said... why not Pandoc? Just too heavyweight for a browser?

Is there a JS port? I <3 Pandoc and use it to publish projects to PyPI and Github with one readme.
