It irritates me, perhaps more than it should, how many people cite David Chalmers' term "the hard problem of consciousness" while proposing solutions that show they aren't remotely interested in the question (see for yourself: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_problem_of_consciousness, http://consc.net/papers/facing.html, http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/consciousness/).

Maybe ignoring the question is right. Maybe philosophers have nothing useful to say about it. But if that's your view, then don't talk about that question.
