The gem of this story is the author is not running unit test in what most folks understand a unit test is. If the OP had said private projects, I would agree but he mentioned private tasks. So I imagined him using the tool for daily chores and such. but I think your statement make more sense.
The audience must be factored in when crafting the story. Because it dictates aspects of it. the language used, the embellishments added/removed, delivery method, the actors etc must be carefully crafted.
Some stories are short and straight to the point.
I had a colleague where if the analogies are used to as part of the story told, the message is not full understood by him.

As you mentioned even the most basic of RPi can run the pants of the Atari ST machines, so it is hardly a fair usage of the computer if you want to do modern tasks.
