No, you are not attacking, but you really do not understand. Let me ask you a question. If Apple is assembling the iPhones in India, do you think the work condition is much better than that of Foxconn? And do you know that Foxconn is a Taiwanese company? Yes the Chinese government has their goals. They are corrupted and they do not care much about people. But, it's great they can offer great jobs to farmers assembling iPhones. Even though the work condition is so bad according to your standard.

Probably not, but we can't really know this, and at least having a democratic government in theory provides some leverage. My argument is that paying incredibly low prices for technology has human costs and perhaps is not sustainable.
But, it's great they can offer great jobs to farmers assembling iPhones.
That's assuming farmers are happier on factory lines than they are working on their farms. Is there evidence to support this? Of course we can't and shouldn't keep China agrarian but Western consumerism is subsidizing some ugly stuff that wouldn't be possible without it.
China does not compete on an even playing field with many other countries because of poverty yes but also because its government is interested in development at all costs.
And yes, the West developed the same way but it doesn't mean it's ethical.
Well this is a collaboration b/t Skype and TOM.com. Skype has to do it b/c they don't have license to operate in China. My skype account was registered in China and I have to prove I'm not in China anymore to remove the association..
I agree with many of your points, but still China is the second largest country in information technology, better than EU and Japan. How do you explain this? Any thoughts?
Antd is an official implementation of the ant design language. If you read their introduction (https://ant.design/docs/spec/introduce) you'll see they target "middleware" products (or 中台应用, which actually should be translated to internal applications) which don't require customized UI and theming.
> this isn’t a disagreement on tax policy, this is advocating hatred and violence.
There are still around 40% people voting for Trump and many donating to him, so you mean they are also advocating hatred and violence?
What you believe could be different from others. People can choose different perspectives to see and understand the world. We should encourage different ideas and voices. This post could be downvoted too because I'm supporting and encouraging different voices.
> There are still around 40% people voting for Trump and many donating to him, so you mean they are also advocating hatred and violence?
At this point, I'd have to say yes, given Trump's actions the past few days. His supporters are openly committing sedition[1]. If you don't believe and hatred and violence, and you still support him, I'd have to say that's a case of superior orders. The man is intentionally inciting fear and violence.
Encouraging different opinions and voices are fine, but there is a limit. When that voice is actively encouraging harm to others based on unfounded allegations, it makes sense to cut it off, as it is not driving the conversation forward.
There are no real estate developers in China. At least, not the kind you're thinking of. The government itself, the PRC designs and builds the cities. They are the alpha and omega in China.
No need to downmod me (I was sitting at +1 until literally the moment you decided to comment), what I said was 1,000% factually correct. There ARE ghost cities in China, A LOT of them. Just because some of them are no longer completely vacant doesn't mean they stop existing. The majority of those cities are still vacant. End of story, really.
Actually, it isn't. Over the last 2-3 years, China has been soliciting reporters and writers to come out and visit some of their "ghost towns", specifically, the few they've actually put some people in. They pay for the entire trip and basically give them the emperor treatment while there. The hope is that these writers will come back and write fluff pieces like this, they want to change public perception. I know they do this first-hand because my ex-roommate is a writer for a large well-known website and received such an offer. He had to turn it down because his wife was 8 months pregnant otherwise he would have went.
Oh, and your article talks about reasons for delays in getting people in there. I think the entire article is a load of BS (it's forbes, after all). Many of those ghost cities are beginning to fall into disrepair due to how long they've remained empty. At that point, justifications and excuses become a moot point.
Not sure what kind of cancer you have. There are so much progress in this field and I believe many types of cancer can be controlled now. My mom has NSCLC. It's been two years and it's very likely she'll be just fine in the next a few years. Please do not give up..
I wish you strength and courage. Spend time with your mom and tell her how much you love her, every chance you get. My own cancer is of the bile duct, spread to my lungs after five years' silence. I've accepted as fact that it's terminal, there is only "when", no "if". And even "when" is out of my hands, it's down to unreadable factors in my DNA and environment.
I wish you strength and courage too. My wife was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor (had no idea until I woke up to her having a seizure in bed next to me) and my previous world, all our plans, have shattered. The horrible thing about brain cancer is that radiation degrades you mentally very quickly. So we are thinking of opting for chemo only for now. Hoping that the quality vs quantity of life trade-off is worth it. Praying for a miracle cure before radiation is necessary.
We were planning to have kids in the next year or so. Now we're doing fertility preservation in case the chemo makes her infertile. I'm wondering if I can cope as a single dad if things come to that. I have a good paying tech job but everything in the Bay Area is so expensive, especially with kids.
I'm really sorry to hear it. My wife passed last year of her brain tumour, a medulloblastoma. It had come back a few years after it was first discovered and treated. Getting an initial diagnosis like that changes everything very quickly.
I'm wishing you both all the best, and some times of simple joy together to balance the rest of what you're going through.
Not sure if handing out advice is appropriate. But what the heck, nobody mentioned cannabis oil treatment, so here I am mentioning it. It probably won't turn the "when" to an "if", but is worth investigating to see maybe it the treament is something you would like to try. I've researched quite a bit and it seems to have helped (relatively) delay the "when" to quite a lot of people.
I personally find it hard accepting things I'm told to do or that most people have been doing for ages (i.e I don't use shampoo, I sleep on the floor, no commercial toothpaste etc..). I'm not a naturalism fanatic too, it's just things I researched and resonated with me, I tried them, and I liked it.
