I bet they just extend the date.

Well, I guess we can check by seeing how many active users there are, but I see your point.

I think this would be even better if it were integrated with podcasts as well.

Currently it uses whatever is in your iTunes library, so you can play any downloaded podcasts, but you're right, a podcast directory/download feature would be great!

Very impressive! If I were Google, I'd buy the company immediately. With Google's backing, they could go into production with more speed, maybe even using the Nexus Q's USA-based manufacturer. I think once they've release the first Ouya, Google should start working on putting in more Google TV and Nexus Q features.

That's exactly what I don't want to see. Yet another device tied in to Google. For me, all the promise of the Ouya is in doing things independently, not tied to the mission of a corporate behemoth.

If corporate behemoths want in, they can do the same thing as everyone else and write SN app for it.

I understand what you're saying, but I don't think Google would do much of anything to tie the Ouya to its 'corporate behemoth' mission. Besides, I believe that Google's immense power could improve Ouya's standing by backing it thoroughly.

They would, 100% absolutely try and make it the new Google TV.

Well, if Ouya is successful, they will eventually become a corporate behemoth too.

What was it, maybe 7-8 years ago Google was still a scrappy start up sticking it to MS and AOL?

Then they'd be a new corporate behemoth, introducing variety. If these guys entertain a Google acquisition at all, I am out.

It seems to me that Mayer is just trying to create her own Google. The issue here is that while it's all well and good to improve email and search, and that should be done, there are much more important things to be done. Reinvigorating Flickr and focussing on giving the little talent that remains there latitude to make great things should be higher on the list.

In my mind, Yahoo has lost already. It's in the bin with Myspace and Aol. So I don't think that Mayer can pull it out of there by refreshing Yahoo Mail and search. But let's see what she can do.

I think they will just kick out any advertisers they discover.

Pssst.... <command> <+>

That's why i wrote 'zoom in'

What did you think about diaspora?

They have definitely captured mindshare and championed the need for federated systems. I've not tried Diaspora though so can't comment.

Seems more like an elitest social network than anything. That might not be such a terrible thing- after all, Facebook started out only allowing people with .edu email addresses. Metafilter now charges a one-time fee of $5. I'll be interested to see what happens with App.net.

I think Safari's download window is the most elegant solution. Chrome's download bar is annoying, but functional for the most part.
