I agree. I think one thing I’ve realized is that a few thousand years isn’t really that long of a timespan. And people writing around the time of Rome and even earlier weren’t stupid like I’ve tended to think of them. I think that’s why things like philosophy have persisted through time. It’s not like humans were unable to reason about their existence in the time of Rome. If I read and think about those folks and their experience of the human condition, I am able to relate to someone who lived many generations before me, which I think is pretty incredible to be honest.
I love what Wondery puts out particularly in the history segment. Tides of History, American History Tellers, LBJs War, Business Wars, I’m sure there are others I’m missing. Wondery was a staple in my morning commute when that existed. I wonder if new normal will put any downward pressure on podcasts.
I would say that we tend to reduce human flourishing to exclusively being alive. I think the 5x multiplier maybe covers things like loss of liability in an accident, a sense of ownership of the vehicle, loss of privacy or obscurity, regulatory or operational infrastructure costs associated with a switch to self-driving, freedom of choice, etc. All of these have some ultimate impact on human flourishing beyond just a binary dead or alive definition. My opinion is, if these aren’t included in the 5x, they should be.
It’s sort of funny, if not maddening, to see elitists try to appeal to the little guy when their back is against the wall. I feel like this is a common trope. It reminds me of Aurelius Commodus in Gladiator.
I feel like this has more to do with F1’s popularity than DIRT. F1 2020 actually improved their simulation aspects too. Guess it’s off to iRacing for F1 simulation. I can see the FIFA-ization of the next few F1 games turning me off.
The only issue with F1 in iracing is that its almost too realistic. unless you spend hours tweaking the setup and really know what you are doing, the car will be difficult to drive and significantly slower than anyone else in the F1 leagues, who have spend that time fine tuning their setups.
Oh yea and they are still difficult to drive even with a good setup. 1000 HP rear wheel drive monsters...
Don’t they usually have “styles” of intrusion? I’m certain I’ve read in the past where intelligence agencies could differentiate between Russian backed styles of hacking and Chinese backed styles of hacking. I’m sure Americans have their own style of hacking as well.
I would say it’s also quite likely that the US knows who did this or has known who has been doing it for a while. It’s highly unlikely that this press release wasn’t coordinated by the intelligence agencies to play into some advantageous scenario they’ve drawn up.
If there are such styles of exploit, which means it’s public knowledge, sounds like a great way to cover your tracks then. Just make it look like the other person.
No, the major difference in the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are in the makeup of the lipid nanoparticle. Here's an article from Moderna last year on biodegradability of the LNPs they've developed. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6383180/
Thanks for this article. I can see both vaccines consider the use of PEG to be important. Still looking for the other lipid ingredients in the Moderna vaccine.
