The elite class in your country views AI as a risk to their status as elites, not an actual existential threat to humanity. They are just lying to you, as usual. That is what our current crop of globalist, free-trade, open-borders elites do.

Imagine if you had an AI companion that instantly identified pilpul in every piece of media you consumed: voice, text, whatever. It highlighted it for you. What if you had an AI companion that identified instantly when you are being lied to or emotionally manipulated?

What if this AI companion could also recommend economic and social policies that would actually improve the lives of people within your nation and not simply enrich a criminal cabal of globalist elites that treat you like cattle?

The Elite class is just as apt to consolidate power with AI and rule the entire world with it. If you have a super duper AI in your pocket looking at the data around you, then they a super super super duper duper duper AI looking at every bit of data from every corner of the world they can feed the thing giving themselves power and control you couldn't even begin to imagine.

Falling into conspiratorial thinking on a single dimension without even considering all the different factors that could change belies ignorance. Yes, AI is set up to upend the elites status, but is just as apt to upset your status of being able to afford food and a house and meaningful work.

> not simply enrich a criminal cabal of globalist elites that treat you like cattle?

There is a different problem here... And that is humankind has made tools capable of concentrating massive amounts of power well before we solved human greed. Any system you make that's powerful has to overcome greedy power seeking hyper-optimizers. If I could somehow hit a button and Thanos away the current elites, then another group of powerseekers would just claim that status. It is an inane human behavior.

Gene Wolfe - "The Shadow of the Torturer" - 4 books series called The Book of the New Sun

Who really knows what was in the Library of Alexandria before it was burned for the 6th or 7th time.

Probably a bunch of recipes

But you could only read them after you unscrolled 50 feet of story about how much they enjoyed the buffet platters at Bel's temple as a kid before watching the sacrifices

Here's a rogue-like game written in straight C, with hard-coded arrays, structs, and defines.

https://github.com/tmewett/BrogueCE

component systems are useful when you have no design doc, or a design doc written by new-hire monkeys. Or when management has no idea what the goals are.

Or if you want code that's easier to extend, read and don't want to do your own memory management.

Here's a bit of code from that project that generates a monster: https://github.com/tmewett/BrogueCE/blob/master/src/brogue/M...

It just allocates an object per monster, followed by initializing a long list of members that presumably just gets longer as more game systems get added.

The same code in ECS would look a lot simpler, and probably perform better/have better cache locality.

I dunno. I was listening to a twitter space with a bunch of feds and they brought up an interesting topic. foreign nations are running _very real_ psychological operations on groups and individuals in the USA using modern internet communication and media technologies. Real evil stuff. People have died. People killed themselves, or are now homeless.

not everyone you talk to on the internet is "just like me!" Some of them are weird foreign nationals and they want to extract useful info from you then wreck your life.

Democracy is mob rule. Democracy is one of the worst political systems ever conceived of. The men that built the USA knew this and did all they could to protect against it. Unfortunately it did not last and here we are: people with no vested interest in the system making decisions.

" people with no vested interest in the system making decisions."

Opposed to the people with vested interest in the system, like the german emperor and russian tsar. Who made a big war for the benefit of everyone. Kings think in history grandeur, just like ordinary politicians. They just have more unchecked power, you should maybe try out north korea, I think they are the closest to being anti democratic.

This is how it has always been. This is reality. This is basic human nature. Shaking your fist at the sky and being mad at natural human interactions is silly. Please stop.

The most important thing you can do for your career, for a successful and fulfilled life is to get good at interpersonal relationships. Don't be a weird, anti-social shut-in. Your family, your community, your society are the most important things in life. This is good. This is healthy.
