I have tried using YNAB and Mint for managing my finances/budgeting but have come away disappointed. Currently I use a spreadsheet to budget the current year.
I have been thinking about writing an app to do the things like YNAB/Mint but better.

My general advice would be to plan, plan, plan. This could be using a tool like Jira or Github Projects. Have whiteboard sessions to discuss the architecture before you get started and make sure you plan it out well. Communication is also really important so everyone knows what each other is doing.
