It was promptly flagged. Operation clean up is underway.

> the US is willing to at least work with Israel

What do you mean at least work with Israel? The US is propping up Israel and without that ally Israel would probably implode. What’s messed up is how disrespectful Israel and some of their politicians are to US and their citizens. One thing I like about Israel is that they have a variety of oppinions and schools of thought. What we’re currently seeing is coming from the radical right wing and those atrocities will unfortunately stain Israelis of all types. Hope they do at the next elections.

Israel is a postindustrial economy with a 600,000-man military reserve and (unofficially) a nuclear arsenal of the size and capability needed to destroy the society of any industrialized nation on Earth.

Almost all of the support and protection they've received from the US since October has been mainly to keep leverage on Netanyahu and to keep the war from spreading across the Middle East. For example, if Iran's missiles had bombarded Tel Aviv, you're probably going to see Israel bombarding Tehran, which could pull in Iraq, etc., and Israel has yet to lose a fight against its regional neighbors.

They don't need the US to prop them up economically or militarily, which should bring about a conversation about support come next budget, but I doubt it.

I too would like to see a more moderate group in charge.

Which Israeli defense contractors build airplanes and tanks? Without aircraft and spares you cannot have a modern military. The US absolutely props up Israeli with weapons and military technology that they do not produce in country. Waving around nuclear weapons and a massive number of troops are the actions of states that are weaker then project as (Russia DPRK).

> Which Israeli defense contractors build airplanes and tanks?

Neither do the North Koreans [1][2]? (Caveats [3][4].)

America dropping Israel simply means it finds a new supplier. Russia is out of the picture, given its dependence on Iran, but China and India would be more than willing to supply.

Israel did use to build fighter jets. It built the Kfir. It planned to build a next gen airplane (The Lavi) but was pressured by the US to cancel that plan and instead buy F16s. The US also affects control of what Israeli weapons systems can be sold to who. Presumably part of the agreement to cancel the Lavi project was some sort of US commitment to supply Israel instead.

>you're probably going to see Israel bombarding Tehran, which could pull in Iraq

Why would Israel bombing Tehran pull in Iraq? Iraq and Iran have never been friends.

Wishful thinking, regardless of which elections your talking about. In the US, both sides are working hard to prop up Israel. In Israel before October, Netanyahu was on trial for fraud, bribery and breach of trust. Who's even talking about that anymore? Now he gets to be a war Prime Minister.

> That doesn't answer my question? A lot of things are bad, most don't make it to the HackerNews front page...

Most likely because of the current events and the indiscriminate and out of proportion reaction by Israel towards Gazans. Was just reading some news today that Israel approved more Israeli settlements in West Bank. It seems that this conflict will only end when Israel will have killed/deported all Palestinians. Now how come only bad news are coming from Israel? Is there anything else interesting happening in Israel to take steam away from this conflict? They do have a tech scene with startups and all that. I've read some stuff like that on HN but nothing interesting or out of the ordinary is happening in that area at the moment...

> Why Am I Doing This?

There some form of monetization in many of these challenges whether it translates to real money or attention, likes, traffic and so on. While reading this I was wondering why not interview blind people? They're in this for so long and a good picture of what it is to be blind.

So you're saying autistic people should not have children?

The specific questions asked were "what are the odds of that?" and "is there a genetic component?"

The answer to the latter is "yes", which although unquantified in the responses, at least intuitively changes baserate assumptions.

I'm not sure how one draws a normative assertion out of the questions, implied or otherwise.

I think he's just probing the improbability of this scenario absent a genetic component (which wouldn't be surprising to me if there was - is it asserted that autism is non-genetic?)

I mean, I'm autistic and will adopt instead of having biological children for that very reason. I'm high functioning and still had a cursed childhood owing to it. I wouldn't roll the dice on bestowing that on anybody, let alone my kin. I realize that's a pretty hot take to many people but as someone that dealt with the best-case scenario of the disorder, this isn't something any kid should have to deal with.

I'm willing to take the risk if the opportunity shows itself. But I've spent so much time understanding what the disorder did to me that I think I could teach my child the things that took me so long to learn.

That's a fair point, and a good way of looking at it. My biggest concern, to be honest, is that they'll be low-functioning and it'll be because of the hand I chose to deal them. The thought alone is haunting

I find this inspiring - truly an example of heroism and bravery. Bravo.

"How to hire low experience, high potential people" who would be also okay with low compensation and great promises for the future?

Why not create a subcategory in Olympics for doped sportsman. They compete against eachother and not against the 'natural' athletes.

Scores of doped up athletes should not compare to regular athletes.

I personally have a very hard time thinking out loud but have no problem thinking quietly. I'm for example terrible at explaining something while working on it but could easily explain it afterwards.

Im aphantastic to some extent and lack inner voice except for certain situations where there is a semblance of inner voice. Im learning for the first time about anauralia and am intrigued, seems I do to some extend have this. I'm just curious, do you present no inner voice whatsoever or do you have the occasional inner voice in some cases, when for example you attempt to collect some information when getting ready to write down something or in a very stressful situation you need to enumerate some steps to get out of it, etc...

How about the mortgage, the mouths to feed and other financial obligations? Or are you suggesting volunteering in addition to keeping the tech job?

I know that's hard. But honestly I had fallen into something similar to what OP is saying a long time back and it is a bit of a one step backward first to go forward kind of a thing. Without nourishing the soul genuinely these things can take over your life. Maybe he can volunteer for a short while / after hours.
