No, I have a Camera Link PCIE card that causes any system I put it into not to boot. So it could be the card. But also, AMD firmware is...interesting... based on my experiences with Epyc motherboards.
Not really; link training and initialization for PCIe devices is really complex. A lot of motherboard bootware, even from reputable vendors, tends to handle obscure conditions by simply rebooting or locking up.
I wouldn't be surprised if there were certain steps where they simply forgot to include any sort of timeout, meaning the device can hang the boot process by simply not responding at the right moment.
I have my health, a career and I have my parents but this has been the hardest of holiday seasons. While I'm blessed, I feel like I'm falling behind peers who are are in serious relationships and starting families of their own; guess it's one of the first times I've felt lonely and the world/reality closing in.
This thread has been a good read; to me its a reminder to charish what I have and remember to look forward to tomorrow. Some Sun would sure help...
3 years ago, at my family's Christmas dinner, I shared that my wife had separated and filed for divorce. Worst Christmas ever. I didn't eat anything, threw up, and don't remember much apart from being depressed, angry, and confused.
I just got remarried this year and can confirm that tomorrow will be better if you allow those that love you to help, and choose long term betterment and stability over short term fixing happiness.
Amen, though once I called them it was pretty easy to get them to cancel me. SiriusXM, though...spent 25 minutes on the phone arguing with the rep that I didn't want to pay for their service anymore, in any fashion or form. I was begging them to let me cancel by the end of the call.
My friends switched from whatsapp to signal for day. We switched back after a matter of hours. We couldn't find a way to quote messages to reply to them, which is critical for group conversions where multiple threads are happening at once. Also there was no ability to @user to direct a message at a specific person. As for the app, there was unnecessary whitespace between messages--even using smallest font size. Usability vs unauditable security is tough calculus but I think technical people weigh security more then their less technical friends.
Shkreli's youtube streams on finance were always pretty interesting and if you omit is trollish behavior, he generally was very respectable and seemed to enjoy teaching people about medicine, mathematics and finance. The videos are available online and I think reflect a different personality than the one he presented in public.
From what I understand--yes. They would need to "settle" their transfer on the blockchain and then open a new channel. The solution to this from what I've read is an IOU mechanism and a third party that has a channel with almost everyone. If the third party is rich then each channel is theoretically huge.
ALICE --(IOU to bob for 10k)---> CAROL --(IOU from alice for 10k)--> BOB
I'm a bit of a BTC novice here, so help me understand something: Does this not mean that on the LN there will necessarily be BTC that's essentially "floating" in the network, that hasn't settled on the Blockchain? What does this mean for liquidity and the integrity of the network in general?
Yep basically. BTC is tied up in channels and when you want to take it out of the lightning network you write a transaction to the actual block chain. Though with the way lightning routing works you can keep your money in the network for months or even years making hundreds of transactions. It's kind of like having a debit account (bitcoin lightning) and a savings account (bitcoin stored in cold storage) with your bank.
What happens to the engine trustless selling point of bitcoin when the only plausible scalability solutions entail reintroducing trusted third parties?
He was actually found not guilty of that charge. The charges he was found guilty related to him lying to investors when he lost their money in a hedge fund he operated. According to the jury, he felt bad about this and made them whole by paying them back in stock. All said and done--everyone made money, including some his accusers who made 10x their original investment.
Nice work. A few days ago I tried xfce4 with little luck, although xfce4-terminal + Xming get me pretty much everything I need. Windows ConHost.exe is a pretty poor terminal (specifically in terms of fonts and colors) but hopefully things will get better in time.
