it wasn't needed -- need means "must have"

they're a fantastically popular franchise with a ton of money... and did it without the optimizations.

if they never did these optimizations they'd still have a hugely popular, industry leading game

minor tweaks to weapon damage will do more to harm their bottom line compared to any backend optimization

this is one of the best selling games in history, and is emently popular across the globe.

it had no serious or glaring impact to their bottom line.

thus it was the right call, and if they didn't bother to fix it they'd still be rolling in $$$$

All companies should also defraud & rug pull their customers.

It will make them a lot of money and is thus the right call. Who cares about customers am I right? They'd still be rolling in $$$$.

so then what do you do with the useful stuff?

Cramer is the stock picker guy. There is a well known "Cramer Effect" or "Cramer Bounce" where the stock peaks then drops hard.

Makes for great pump n dump if you're day trading and willing to ride

https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/cramerbounce.asp

long-term his choices don't do well, so the Inverse Cramer basically says "do the opposite of this goober" and has solid returns (sorta; depends a lot on methodology, and the sole hedgefund playing that strategy shutdown)

flat earth creationists would describe their colleagues the same way.

a group of them certainly is an echo chamber; why isn't your view?

He doesn't deny that his point of view forms an echo chamber.

"flat earth creationists would describe their colleagues the same way."

Actually they mostly don't. Lots of infighting over the real true answer .. (infinite flat earth, finite but with impassable ice walls, ..)

An echo chamber is a product of your own creation. If you're willing to upvote people who disagree with your and actively seek out opposite takes to be genuinely curious about, then you're probably not in an echo chamber.

The tools for controlling your feed are reducing on social media like Instagram, TikTok, Youtube, etc., but simply saying that you follow and respect the opinions of a select group doesn't necessarily mean you're forming an echo chamber.

This is different from something like flat earth/other conspiracy theories where when confronted with opposite evidence, they aren't likely to engage with it in good faith.

e.g. how many are cali tech bros vs nyc fintec vs 10am moscow shillbot time

i believe it. hell i'm in F500 companies and virtually all of them had some legacy XP / Server 2000 / ancient Solaris box in there.

old stuff is common, and doubly so for a lot of the world, which ain't rich and ain't rockin new hardware

My PC now is 6 years old and I have no intention of upgrading it soon. My laptop is like 8 years old and it is fine for what I use it for. My monitors are like 10-12 years old (they are early 4k monitors) and they are still good enough. I am primarily using Linux now and the machine will probably last me to 2030 if not longer.

Pretending that this is an outrageous decision when the data and the commonly assumed wisdom was that there were still a lot of people using HDDs.

They've since rectified this particular issue and there seems to be more criticism of the company after fixing an issue.

aye. give me the 3 minute tutorial, not the 37 minute tutorial.

i want to play the game, like now, and i'll read the forums after i figure out that i'm missing something imporant

the engineers disease: "i'm smarter than you and I need to prove it, and we're so smart we wouldn't have shipped this code in the first place" bla bla bla

also keep in mind that modern gaming generates more revenue than the movie industry, so it's in the interests of several different parties to denigrate or undermine any competing achievement -- "Bots Rule Every Thing Around Me"

in this case "Rubio" means that ICE would deport him if they saw him randomly on the streets of Chicago
