The worst is having a manager who thinks he's great, but is actually disloyal and shit. Not sure how best to deal with that situation other than to ignore and eventually move on... If they'd be willing to admit their failing and improve, that would be awesome. Asking for a friend.

Those are CP which is impossible in a distributed messaging system where it has to obviously be AP. Otherwise you'd have to guarantee that everyone involved is always online (no partition) to make progress on sending messages!

I think I have this right anyways. (CAP theorem for anyone curious.)

Nice! I do a lot of concurrency work with DAG's in https://github.com/purpleidea/mgmt/ and I would love to swap out some of those concurrency runners with a lib if possible.

I was wondering if this could be it... Any thoughts in that direction, please let me know!

Thank you! I took a quick look at mgmt, it's quite a large and complex project. I'd need to better understand your DAG-based concurrency patterns to say if Rill would be a good fit. Could you share some examples of the concurrent runners you're thinking about? This would help me understand if/how Rill might be useful for your case.

So we have two concurrency "engines" in mgmt:

(1) One for running the function graph, and (2) one for running the resource graph.

(1) https://github.com/purpleidea/mgmt/tree/master/lang/funcs/da... (2) https://github.com/purpleidea/mgmt/tree/master/engine/graph

TBQH, I think I'm decent at concurrency, but I never considered it my passion or expertise and while both of those _work_ I do know that I have some concurrency bugs hanging out, and I'd love real professional help here.

In the odd chance you'd be willing to hack on things with me, I'd be particularly elated. There might be a possible symbiosis!

I'm @purpleidea on Mastodon, Matrix (where we have an #mgmtconfig room) and a few other places in case you'd like to chat more!

Nice work! In level 5 there are three bounce green boxes and if you fall on one, it bounces you to second, which bounces to third and you "fall into the void" like noclip through the platform and you respawn under it and instantly die forever. Buggy and not going to start from beginning. Open source it!

I think they must be noticing the issues, because I've noticed they've been dropping the stream quality quite substantially... It's a clever trick, but kind of cheap to do so, because who wants to watch pixelated things?

To be brutally honest if it’s a choice between pixelated and constantly buffering, pixelated is way less bad. Constantly buffering is incredibly annoying during live sports. (but this doesn’t negate your main point which is that if people paid to watch they expect decent resolution)

This feels like a specialized version of https://github.com/purpleidea/mgmt/ but Microsoft only.

Neat! Can't tell if it has a speaker at the back or not. Would like to play sounds or alarms...

I'd love to attach this to a PoE to USB-C ethernet adapter to talk to it over API via hardwired. Still looking for something like that. The flipper busy bar seems to at least have some connectivity over USB.

It has a small piezo buzzer, and you can use it to play RTTTL sounds. https://blueforcer.github.io/awtrix3/#/sounds

I have to warn that it sounds like hot garbage though. The neat thing with ESP32 devices is that you can make it sound okay using its built in 8-bit DACs, or great using I²S.

Speaking of hardware hacking; you can also get POE/LAN adaptors for the ESP32, if you have free hardware pins left for it.

+1 for the hot garbage piezo, but as OP says the ESP32 has a lot of fun hacking potential and there's plenty of space in the case especially if you remove the battery.

> we made Starship Titanic

oh neat! I was a voracious Douglas Adams reader and when this game came out, I bought a copy. I don't think I could ever get it working on my machine, and I eventually gave up and have probably lost the copy.

Is it worth buying a new one and giving it a go? (I'm on Linux-only these days.)

looks like it's natively supported on Linux, and apparently runs even better running the Windows version under Proton: https://www.protondb.com/app/467290

Yup, and it's available on both Steam and GOG, usually pretty cheap. It's not running the original code underneath - some amazingly dedicated soul spent over a year porting its custom engine into ScummVM, and that's what the versions on sale now use.

And that dedicated soul (dreammaster) would really like to know who wrote the final star map puzzle, because there was sooo much matrix math his head almost exploded :)

Mini hiring video about the job:

https://mastodon.social/@purpleidea/113075362647034036

I'm officially hiring!

Want to work for me improving mgmt config and using it to do infrastructure automation? https://github.com/purpleidea/mgmt/

I'm leading a small infra team at a really neat company. We're rolling out mgmt config, and we want your help! You'll be writing mcl, golang, and also helping out with other company infra tasks.

Fully remote. More details here:

https://miaplaza.recruitee.com/o/infrastructure

Feel free to ping me if you have questions!

the video was really funny, congrats! hope you find the talent you're looking for.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, the person who made the video is amazing! I didn't ask for anything specific, she just did it on her own! <3

I am going through the applications... We got a good number, so if you're waiting for a reply, please forgive the delay...

What's slightly unfortunate is that a lot of people seem to have applied who clearly don't have anything remotely close to the basic requirements in the posting. This tells me they did not read it or they are bots.

But it does take time to go through those since I actually read everything and am not using any sort of ML stuff or automatic processing.

My advice to those people: Stop doing this! You're permanently burning your reputation since we now know that you're being lazy with our first impressions of you!

> GI Bill and VA coverage for life

Yeah, sounds good until you see in practice how so many veterans are forgotten, let alone the millions without any healthcare at all. Healthcare should be a human right for everyone.

What years did you serve?

I served from 1998 to 2005. You only get "VA for life" if you incur a permanent service-connected disability. Everyone else who uses VA pays for it and are prioritized lower than disabled veterans. Retirees do not have access to VA care unless they too have a disability.
