Yup; a VC I brunched with a couple weeks ago said cloud is dead and he’s looking for alternatives

Yeah, AWS, Azure, and GCP are all shutting down tomorrow. They just decided the cloud isn't that cool any more.

Right because VCs are shoveling money at AWS directly

Their take was startups leveraging the cloud are dead to VCs except in certain niche situations

The proles are always behind the trends

Apple jumped into content creation after Alice neutered software patents. Copyright is Disney level bread and butter now

There are few real markets for CRUD app startups which are just the same old shit with a marketing angle painted on top

Docker pull that shit and run it local.

Dead I tell ya! Finally ran out of credits!

I mean Azure/AWS/GCP doesn't need VC money though lol

Poof!

How are Meta/Twitter/RH related to cloud?

That doesn't matter, what matters is that he brunched with a VC ;)

flex baby flex

to VC everything is cloud

"hedge cloud by investing in solar!"

They’re a frontend to Citadel to “unlock” value for the investors.

It was never meant to compete with real investing tools but instigate transaction fees and accumulate retail behavior data for the market makers

Get off your high horse; people have only ever followed the hype gripping the masses

You might try and show you’re not possessed by an entitled high schooler view of the world and avoid peddling the notion you are possessed of a special meta view

The mechanism for consensus is a gridlocked political system. Everyone seems to think grinding in their deep work thought bubble and unique mental model puts them beyond the edge of human discovery. What a joke

You should never believe the elites follow the rules they put on the proles

So?

Sterilize the job thing, go be colorful with like minded folks away from it.

Doing jobs for someone with more money is one of those things we can’t avoid and it’s been shown over and over we minimize engineering issues when best practices are put first.

Jobs are not there to serve every potential individual preference. You’re paid for results not how validated you feel.

When people can function at a high level without large parts of their brain I find it hard to believe brains are the source of truth for behavior.

Wounds heal without appreciable activity in the brain.

Neurons are just electrical state we call neurons as a shorthand way of saying “electrical state in the brain”.

This just smacks as some form of geocentrism; “why of course the brain is the center of being.”

Gabe Newell talks about interfacing with the cortex as a tractable problem but we have no idea where to start to induce a sensation of feeling cold.

Michael Levin at Tufts is triggering regeneration manipulating electrical state in limbs directly, not the brain.

There’s more to it than the brain itself, which is why I think using neurons as a model for consciousness will never achieve AI that isn’t obvious.

Neither does Musk.

Why not tell him to let things play out?

Yeah but even with an honest profile at one, I asked Twitter for the data they had one; I’m an early 40s single dad and Twitter thought I was a late 40s married mom.

Then there’s his view of what Twitter is; de facto public square. When the user base is 300 million MAU minus bots and spam, it’s hardly pushing numbers that make me believe it’s to be taken seriously as a place for discourse.

His greater good pandering to the middle ground who just want the Clinton years back, appeals to his wealth as some sort infallible measure of his correctness, it’s all just more of the same human lizard brain going where it feels warm and fuzziest; no one has any evidence any of these efforts are helping the future and the industrial and social wasteland they create seem to indicate the opposite.

The problem is that life isn’t a nice linear distribution of truth the way data heads think.

Continuing to play the “optimize myself based upon some meta game as see it” is not a viable strategy.

There is no science that says Musk is certainly on the right path to human longevity.

None of the rich are infallibly and unassailably correct; pointing at them as correct is an appeal to authority which is ludicrous when we have plenty of evidence to show politics is corrupted such that elites are “too big to fail.”

I’m not obligated to make choices based upon your view of the problem and your solution is more of the same “boot straps”.

This culture is a joke. Moral relativism it is; if my choices screw any of you, oh well. Free market.
