Since 2009, the Python Language Summit has been held at PyCon US (except for 2010-2011 when it was at EuroPython). Meanwhile, the core dev sprint has alternated between the US and Europe since 2019.
The proposal is to alternate the Language Summit between PyCon US and EuroPython starting in 2026, with EuroPython hosting the first alternating summit.
Rationale
Not all core developers can travel to the US every year due to visa issues, personal circumstances, or the current political climate
Python’s mission emphasises supporting a diverse and international community
EuroPython already offers free tickets to core developers and has expressed willingness to host
The core dev sprint already alternates successfully
My guess would be that either he felt it was such a monumental cockup that he had to off himself or his bosses thought it was such a monumental cockup that they had to off him.
