Have you tried Amazon interview questions? They expect you to follow the STAR method.

Twice, other than that no. In most behavioral programming interviews I haven't been structured in my answers as being structured came a bit later when I was also applying for consultancies. I was a lot tougher to follow when I wasn't structured.

When I was structured I did use a variation the STAR method when they expected me to. Having a method like that makes things quicker to go through, as long as you make it your own and own it. I adapted the framework a bit by swapping the T (Task) for P (Problem) as it sense to me why you'd need to emphasize the task as opposed to the problem you'd be trying to solve. In rare cases I also adapted it to the SPARAR method, since the result made the problem smaller but didn't fully solve it yet.

I prefer to structure things on the fly though without a pre-defined framework.

These are funny thoughts actually. I have full-time job and also do freelancing. The last part is pretty flexible. I can always do more work and later bill it. This makes everything I do in life computable in monetary terms. I watch TV for an hour? It costs me 100usd - example, not my actual hourly rate. And I do not really get tired of work or coding, I just really want to watch that TV show. But it is weird to think that it costs me 100usd. This aspect actually made me hire a cleaning service and always order food in, because I can spend the time working instead of cooking, shopping and cleaning. Which I of course enjoy more as well. Not only is it temporary financial gain, but any extra time spent coding will be an investment towards mu future to make me a better coder. Of course it is a double edged sword. Hanging out with my girlfriend? 500usd. I also spent my last vacation fully freelancing. Of course I have goals to achieve financial indepence asap though.

How do you know people expect you to answer immediately? I haven't noticed that expectation.

They ask questions which imply "I'm sitting on my hands until you answer me".

Not to put too fine a point on it, but if that's happening to the same person(s) all the time, they need to find a different solution than expecting you to immediately bail them out on request.

Is that your problem? Why?

I would disagree that it is easier to assign seats next to each other compared to random. You would have to firstly check which of the untaken seats are next to each other in a continuous row. With random you would just have to pick a any unseated seat.

unchecked sequential is easier than unchecked random. Checked sequential is easier than checked random. Remember, they aren't just assigning people random seats, they are attempting to assign as many paired individual as far from each other as possible to maximize the inconvenience on the part of the costumers that do not pay extra.
