It is quite evident that a great deal of artificialy generated content is of no value , and is getting put up with no human review or editing, as it lacks any internal or external coherance, just automated verbal aphasia as a wrapper for the adds. Unfortunately, there has been no outright calls for it to stop, and certain people are?? possibly enjoying it??, mayyybeee, and it will get cheaper and cheaper, so, it's here to stay The only plus side is that it makes crazy people look good in comparison. And now that everyone on the street is talking to there phones, with the other side of the conversation in there buds, schitsophrenics are also doing better, or have at least become invisible, as no one notices someone in teddy bear pajamas, walking down the street, talking to themselves. So it's all some kind of wierdness leveling happening right now.

open your mouth, wider, wider, good, now say ahhhhhhgg, good, close you right eye, yes yes, loook to the left, good, now close the left eye, good yes look to the right, fine, well, not so fine but not so bad....,you seem to be suffering from immanence, which as a male you are not imune from, women, born with the phsycological wetware to deal with child birth can handle any amount of immanence, but men must stay busy, and actualy initiate and do stuff, or they will get infected with external soonness, and loose there timing and initiative. It quite litteraly does not matter what you do, anything at all is good, pick lint, build an airplane, get a degree, walk a lot, irritate people on the inter.,er,,er...ok not that, as it's immpossible not to do, but you get the idea? right

Here is a bit of refrigeration trivia gathered from my own interest in the subject and a penchant for collecting and reading old engineering books, so from the early days of shipping food , in refrigerated cargo ships, determining the ideal cooling temperature for each food type, was one thing, but another, facinating component, is that most food is exothermic, and this property is called "the heat of evolution", and varys with each food type, and is large enough that 50 tons of food will produce enough heat as it ripens to overwhelm an insuficient cooling system, so they had charts detailing the heat output of all the shipped foods, and recomendations on the design of the cooling plants, with some so specialised as to work with one food only....banana boats.... Got a 70 year old "admiral" fridge, the wiring insulation just crumbled, and it will get a new thermostat(hidden) and wire, everything else is in battered original, working condition

smart move, to shut down internal dissent, on.something the rest of the industry is moving towards as fast as possible, up.to including flying robo taxis bieng given the green light in China. Given that tesla, and the varios x group have very deap resouces pertaining to navigation and automation, an internal report of iminent failure does seem very strange indeed

only know to be produced.....is a whoa bessy phrase,?¿ as in 70 years ago an undergraduate figured out that dimethyl sulfide was produced by living organisms and he asked his professor what else made it, and got shrug and "nothing else I know of" and everybody has been cutting and pasting since, OR, an international team spent years and millions working on the chemistry behind dimethyl sufide in an epic known to all quest to determine it's origins. Science does have an issue with cutting and pasting ancient mistakes, and then bieng exceptionaly reluctant to change and move forward, not to mention that SETI, and the rest of "alien" research is most definitly tainted with public fantasy and entertainment industry influence, so even with one of the notoriously oderiferous sulfide compounds present, I wont hold my breath

Ya, it’s a bit less exciting, but I bet we’re about to learn many new ways to produce dimethyl sulfide outside of a living organism

actually we know how to produce it without involving living organism

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimethyl_sulfide#Industrial_pr...

actually a living organism is needed to produce it this way

Wikipedia says "In industry dimethyl sulfide is produced by treating hydrogen sulfide with excess methanol over an aluminium oxide catalyst”.

Which part requires a living organism?

I think they are being a little glib by saying a human is need to make the industrial processes.

Well, someone needs to treat the hydrogen sulphide with excess methanol over an aluminium oxide catalyst. I suppose a robot could do it...

For a non-life explanation, you're really looking for something that could plausibly happen in (abiotic) nature, not an industrial process.

The only thing that could make a nerd happier than detecting alien life would be detecting alien robots.

Wait, what's the difference?

Alien life could just be microbial, while alien robots would require an advanced technological civilization, I guess

Well, there could be nanobots...

Virtually all of them involve non-trivial design by sentient beings.

Which part requires a living organism?
haha. Do you really need a hint?

And the question is even more complex: not whether producing dimethyl sulfide "from scratch" without involving living organisms of the familiar sort is possible (of course it is), but what the hypothesis that each of the numerous possible ways to produce dimethyl sulfide happens naturally (or that alien lifeforms want a lot of it) implies about the environment of the exoplanet.

hmmm?m it's moronic to go along with any notion of genius as bieng any single thing, that is present or not. it is fairly reasonable to suggest that most of the lesser sheep are threatened and resentfull of anybody who offers real, implimentable, better, alternatives to the way things are bieng done now Some number of "genius" people are also socialy aware and adept, and know when to just shut up, and let the drones, drone,on, timing and co ordinating the implimentation of there ideas and making there genius look like luck or better yet politics.

Canadian here, serious foodie.,..so..,in one of my many many random food related discusions/visits/inquiry/investigations...I got talking with the owner of a local maker of tofu, and how they grew the business from a kitchen table operation in the days of wtf is tofu, to now where they have a small regional presence, and how they are regulated, hah! ha!, by the Canadian Food inspection agency...no not them....,department of agriculture....no not them....brace yourself....they are regulated by...the department of fisheries.,...not kidding...because , apparently, as it turns out, ha!, one of the things that can infect tofu, is also found in fish, so under this logic, thats who regulates tofu. so as to "war" against a Canadian ban on Vegimite, it might just be much, much simpler, though ha!, hard to swallow, to have the stuff sold as a "nutritional supliment" or just vitamins, with "non medical ingredients" than engage in a frontal assult on one of our entrenched beuorocracys. and as a completely unrelated subject of interest to no one whatsoever, is the sale of raw milk in Canada as pet food, perfectly clean, unpasturised, fresh, pet food, which even more trivialy is completely unregulated in Canada, and of course is never consumed by humans

"…the department of fisheries…"

What on earth is it?

"…to have the stuff sold as a "nutritional supliment" or just vitamins, with "non medical ingredients""

That makes sense, the hapless café owner ought try that approach.

Vitamin B9/folate/folic acid ought not be controversial as it's an essential nutrient. It's added to bread and some other foodstuffs in many countries to ensure pregnant mothers get enough, as folate deficiency causes birth defects.

no idea what the specific microbe to be found in fish and tufu, is called....though if you are the adventurous type, then I suggest filling a "foipop" freadom of information something some thing something with the Canadian feds. As to "essential nutients" added to Canadian food, that is done by legaly requiring certain large producers to add vitamins in specific amounts to specific foods...,.the real nitty gritty of how that is handled and by who....will likely require another foipop Another aside on imported food in Canada, is asian food, sold in ma and pa ethnic grocerie stores, that would arrive strait from the home country, with zero english on it and non of the ingredients listed, which seemed to be fine with everyone except the government when they noticed this after many decades, then began a whole thing with stick on lists of ingredients, but this then degenerated into a beurocratic battle as to which "common" names should be used for the ingriedients, resulting in total confusion from everyone, as to what was in the food, this was resolved by the asian countrys going with full latin scientific names on the labels, which has proven impossible to fault them on, and so we are now again blissfully ignorant of whatever it is in our soup mix.

the future of the internet is greater personal power and autonomy.....everyone will get there own personal web space, to write, create, sell, buy, and comunicate, they own it, it's "free" one to one comunication will be protected in the same way that physical mail has been protected for centuries, ie: dont touch without a warrant groups will have less and less privacy, the larger they are, and a crime by one, is a crime by all ie: just dont do it, play nice, no conspiracy's or calls for insurection platforms will die, unless they can attract and nurture tallent, that out competes all of the indipendents......which is very likely...as top performers, always need team support

it is better to eat "bad" food, than nothing at all, is an ancient piece of advice, so to see it reflected in a study is not surprising survival=pragmatism in a simplified equation that it is autonomic or instinctive is again ,not surprising it is also my understanding, that low landers who are assigned work and administrative possitions, above the snow line, will in short order be craving the sort of ultra high fat diet that they might find repugnant, in there normal low land environment

the integration of the SST's is years out, anything right now is test phase, and work at bringing awareness to the grid operators, who by the way are all conversant with the peculiaritys of working with steam, ie: a conservative bunch who you can bet, will be running code on terminals so esoteric and unpublished as to invite madness for the unwary.........that, and power companys have been embedding there own private fibre inside the core's of the HVTL, so they have unusual options. It's the grid fer fucks sake, give them some credit. Powermag looks to be extra solid, bookmarked.
