I once visited the opening of a new library, and found myself getting outraged when I looked around at the desks and sitting areas and places where one was supposed to be able to sit down and read a book ---- they were all totally exposed to visibility by everyone else in the entire room in such a way that I knew I could never be comfortable reading a book in this library. And that made me very angry. Yet the fault is somehow mine, as this FISHBOWL architecture is cool and all the rage. Guess I have to take the book home if I want to read it without being WATCHED.

And here you are on Hacker News, chatting with thousands of the smartest people in the world. This is the kind of quirky interaction you should be enjoying Right Now.

I am worried about the babies who show up on Tinybeans.

Indoctrinated into Instagram culture from the instant of their birth, from before they even knew how to think or talk.

Later on they'll be able to see thousands and thousands of pictures of themselves as a baby, which will surely do something warped to their young fragile egos. "The Internet? Why yes, I know all about it --- that is where all the pictures of ME are stored!"

Wasn't there some big reason that children under thirteen weren't allowed to have a Facebook account?

Facebook is now using Facebook News to publish positive uplifting articles about how Facebook is a force for good in the world! In other words, pure propaganda.

As far back as 1995, I was on USENET lamenting that all these new, stupid people were showing up everywhere with their newbie questions --- the ETERNAL SEPTEMBER of the Internet.

And someone no less than Craig Good of PIXAR corrected me at that time, to scold me in public. "Just because you got here first, doesn't make you better than them. You had newbie questions once, too."

Chekhov's LITTLE HAMMER is everywhere.

I remember when you uninstalled Chrome, it opened your other default browser to display a webpage with the message "You have uninstalled Chrome. We're sorry to see you go!"

That entire maneuver was just to plant tracking cookies into your OTHER browser, for use to track you later on. Dirty, dirty stuff.
