Don't be afraid. Although we are constantly bombarded with negative news about the economy, politics, and various alarming issues under the sun, the future is bright.
Throughout history, we have faced significant shifts, from the Industrial Revolution and the rise of communism to advances in technology and the internet, all of which have sparked similar concerns. Trade imbalances are a regular occurrence and will always happen. The key reason for these changes is a shift in the global currency,' particularly the petrodollar. Our current world operates within a corrupt fiat economy based on dishonest currency, which keeps governments and nations perpetually in debt, allowing the system to continue functioning. The current old way of currency manipulation is collapsing before our very eyes, and many people miss that it's not just about trade; it's fundamentally about a transition from dishonest "money" — currency that can be easily manipulated and printed — to a form of currency that organizations like the Federal Reserve or any other dubious institutions cannot control. Mike Maloney has a series on money that everyone should watch. We are witnessing the collapse of the current currency system -- to perhaps money backed by something real or maybe no money at all.
What was the best time you were the optimistic about the future? before that time, there were as pessimistic as you and OP and the world still went through quite prosperous times.
Ban any corporations or companies from making a page on it, only real people. Vet everyone and no AI bots. Kick out and ban people who are not good with the community. Just like any community, have people vouch for each other. No promoting, no ads.
100% this. Regarding the vetting part: The bluesky waitlist/invite system was a bit extreme but a karma system which prevents posting before reaching a certain level (some subreddits and hacker news does this) could also improve the quality of conversation
Also, over time we have seen how advertising really skews the quality of social platforms, so I’d challenge you to come up with other forms of monetization, which could be donation or subscription based, or perhaps points based rewards like Bamboo’s maker hub.
I’m not a huge fan of how AI generated content can pollute social media, but using it for moderation could be useful, such as detecting company pages, spam and other harmful content.
What you perceive as noise is multi-dimensional data that appears chaotic from your perspective. It's possible that we are living in multi-layered "simulations" created by [..]. There may not be such a thing as entropy or a resistance to it, since that entity is likely consciousness itself. Consciousness is essential for both creating and interpreting information. We are part consciousness (at least some of us, some are just pure data/information, they are like NPCs or 'background people' as Dolores Cannon calls them).
I feel the same way! I left corporate and chose a non-profit where the mission aligns with doing something good. I suggest you do the same. You may not get paid as well, but if you choose carefully, some could pay decently. But at least you can wake up every morning and feel good that you're contributing to something good, not lining up $$ for corporate greed!
AI will create more jobs as it replaces tedious ones. There will always be more innovation and work, so don't worry! This is the same fear as the Internet age back in the days replacing stores, TV, media, etc. We will always continue to improve, and nothing stays stagnant -- there's always something new to discover.
At present, AI is starkly limited and not able to replace any job. At best, it can automate certain menial tasks, such as low-level support. In programming, it only works for non-trivial programs when used under the direction of an experienced programmer that breaks down the work into small steps the AI can perform.
You may be imagining a future where AI can do all jobs, but please be clear that this is your imagination. That future does not exist today and is not guaranteed to exist tomorrow. Before it can exist, a much simpler future where AI can replace any job has to exist, and that future doesn’t exist yet either.
this thread's premise assumes AI will make "developers" obsolete. jotjotzzz's comment assumes that AI will create new jobs to replace the old ones.
assuming the premise of the thread, that some hypothetical AI replaces all the developers, I was questioning why such a hypothetical AI would be able to do the work of developers, but not do the supposed "new jobs" jotjotzzz believes would arise.
basically, if AI ever becomes autonomous and general enough to fully replace developers, it will be autonomous and general enough to handle any new jobs that pop up too.
AI needs to be trained, it cannot create knowledge in a vacuum.
I think that's why there will always be some augmentation by humans to provide the context and the knowledge
A good example is … Blockbuster is gone but we have Netflix. Sears is gone but we have Amazon. Those were internet age companies that we’ve seen come to having massive market shares now.
If AI follows suit, there will be a wasteland of nonsense “AI” companies followed by some industry shifting AI technology companies, in about 10-15 years we’ll see who’s left.
I guess it works for remembering and retaining words. But Duolingo will not get you there if you expect to converse with someone! Language acquisition requires more than just rote memorization; it's also training your ears for actual native persons speaking the language and talking with them!
Based on all the sightings and someone flying a drone next to these things, the size of these "drones" is much bigger, like the size of a car! Additionally, drones can hover for less than an hour. These "drones" stay floated for many hours on end!
These should be called UFOs, not drones. The light on them and their shape make them look like regular drones, but I think these crafts are much more than the regular drones that the media has called them.
> Additionally, drones can hover for less than an hour. These "drones" stay floated for many hours on end!
I think this is misinformation stemming from today’s meeting with NJ mayors. There was a statement that they are seen for 7 hours at a time. At no point did they say the same drone stayed in the air for 7 hours. I believe they were stating that the sightings start after sundown and go on for around 7 hours. Of course the internet took this and ran with it as the internet does.
Firstly, this is a disability and not your fault. There are many workplaces now that acknowledge this as such. Medication will help you continue bettering yourself. 36 is not old. Most great people didn't start making their careers until late into their 50s. The best way forward is to acknowledge your disability and continue to work on your strengths.
I have never used Claude, and I gave it a try today. It recommended a book that never existed. When I asked to tell me more, it apologized for giving me a fake book recommendation. I'm like, WTF!
