Microsoft is using “like” in this case to be a simile.

The passkey is being compared to a digital version of a physical key, the brass object used to unlock doors.

I'm willing to try it! Are you able to wear earbuds with the daith piercing? Airpods Pro are one of my most-used pieces of tech both at work live-streaming classes and at home listening to books and music.

Yes!

I have worn various and my current are Airpods 2 Pro.

The daith is discreet, does not get in the way of anything.

What about wearing a winter hat? I was considering getting one for the exact reasons as you, but I live in a pretty cold area and not being able to wear a hat for 6 months during its healing process is unfortunately a dealbreaker.

Unless the hat has a hard edge which sits right on top of the piercing you should be fine.

I had no idea that it was 2600hz tone that what started the whole phreaking scene.

> Bill discovered that a recorder he owned could also play the tone at 2600 Hz with the same effect.

I hadn't realised this was true: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ITfQGEASYvU

Holy moly, chill. There was no criticism, nitpicking, or “telling others what to do”. What an absurd extrapolation. It was a polite and harmless observation—one that I would have appreciated getting myself, by the way—on a funny comment that requires prior knowledge to understand the joke.

And yeah, you are overanalysing. Despite having read and enjoyed Mitnick’s Ghost in the Wires¹ I had absolutely forgotten 2600 was the specific frequency and had to hop around a few links to recall what this was about. Who would self-congratulate on something so small?

Hacker News is ostensibly about curiosity, so explaining references is absolutely on topic. And being lazy is a hacker trait, I personally dislike when I don’t pursue something interesting because there was no easy link to follow.

The irony in your comment is something else. Don’t assume bad faith.

FWIW I preemptively acknowledged the irony in my comment because I admit it was a little ludicrous.

I wasn’t responding to your comment, I was would have kept it to myself as it wasn’t necessarily directed towards you personally

> Don't assume bad faith

Yes this is a personal shortcoming I am working on :)

Next time I’m sipping Gatorade or eating pineapple, I’m definitely going to think of Edward Benson.

They might be referring to an on screen button.

Check out the new voice transcription feature in iOS 18. On my SE 2022 (very much not high-end), I have a good-size record/pause button on screen.

After you’re done with the voice recording, it gives you a transcription of what you spoke.

Zotero can sync the actual entry’s media via WebDAV which Nextcloud handles very well. I’ve been using it since around 2019.

You might recheck your assumptions. It’s possible you’re pushing too hard (since it’s not a roller ball, you don’t need force to get flow). And there’s a variety of different “grips” for us lefties, and I write daily with my vanishing point and kon peki ink with no smudge.

I’ll agree somewhat on pencils, though. I used to have gray hands when I was in high school after all my notes.

This is really neat. It reminds me of my use of Notational Velocity from (holy cow!) almost 20 years ago. https://notational.net/

One difference between notational velocity and thinktype is that thinktype has no concept of a title. You write full notes in the searchfield, and you see full notes as results.

Coming from a family with several people “on the spectrum,” I want to point out that _some_ people with ASD have trouble with sarcasm.

I would also contend that HN, like my workplace (university math department) skews towards folks with ASD.

Usual caveats of “when you met one person with autism, you met one person with autism…” etc etc.

So it’s just another LMS? The title made me think this was going to be pedagogical research. Consider me a disappointed online educator.
