How's the bridge's structure?

I don't understand your comment.

Whenever I have a brain fart, my 12 year old daughter loudly and sarcastically thanks Thomas. Words can't express how much I appreciate her sense of humor.

ScienceClic on Youtube has amazing videos on this topic as does Veritasium. Einstein's happiest thought helps with understanding this. He thought that there would be no discernible difference between what a man felt while falling off a ladder (let's not factor in air resistance) and what a person in 0g space felt.

We are actually "accelerating" upwards at a constant rate that is equal to what we feel and many think of as gravity. This is because spacetime is curved by the mass of the earth.

Think of a grid being distorted or squeezed / pinched. The distortion pinching is "gravity". Everything in the grid still travels in a straight path relative tot he lines on the grid but since the [spacetime] grid is pinched, it looks as if it is not on a straight path.

Thank you

I dislike this new trend of trying to make your site's text look like LLM output. It's incredibly annoying to read at a fixed slow pace.

I think in this case it's because the book is about typewriters and it has nothing to do with LLMs.

I agree it's annoying but I think this particular site has some aesthetic reason to do this.

"LLM output"? you mean typing?

Especially since I have @prefers-reduce-motion set.

I'm curious if the average developer would consider text appearing with no actual motion (no scale, pan, translate, fade, no tween whatsoever) a candidate to disable for @prefers-reduce-motion

I suspect the average web developer doesn't know or care about @prefers-reduce-motion (even less than @prefers-color-scheme), but for the few that do, I would expect to err on the side of caution, eliminating any animation and any page change that is not made absolutely necessary by user interaction.

tbf it predated LLM output by a fair margin. But mostly agree, my firefox on a decently powerful laptop was jerky enough I turned it off.

Yes, I was recently playing some retro games from the 8-bit era and lots of them did it with clicking noises that I assume were meant to simulate a teletype.

If anyone likes bluegrass, check out billy strings. Those guys have figured out how to release chemicals in my brain. A joy to listen to.

Check out Greensky if you haven't already. A lot of Billy's recipes were adapted from their book.

Ha. All the purists will now yell at you because you enjoy progressive "newgrass".

Since there is no description in the link: "Simple and scalable PHP applications with serverless"

Plot tether market cap against BTC price. They appear to print USDT with no oversight. I fail to see how this is sustainable.

Tether is backed 1:1 with USD in traditional bank accounts. Some of it may still be seized and held by the US government, not sure if that's been resolved yet.

USDT also trades freely on open markets against USD. If USDT was being printed without USD backing then those markets would decouple.

It doesn't take much effort to verify these claims.

But it's not worth my time digging it up for you.

If you don't want to believe it, then don't. Doesn't make a difference to me.

> It doesn't take much effort to verify these claims.

Please verify your first claim and I'll admit I was wrong.

can you explain me the link between USDT and BTC ?

USDT is another "cryptocurrency". I put that in quotes as they can print it at their leisure. They claim to be backed by USD but have never been audited. The market cap grows by billions a month.

BTC and USDT is a common trading pair on crypto exchanges.

As a result, those behind USDT can print it and buy BTC to manipulate the price.

Don't get me started on exchanges allowing you to trade with yourself. This field is tainted with shady practices.

How hard?

People are buying and selling tons of BTC with USDT and if it ends up being a fractional reserve and has been printing billions with nothing backing it up, how much of the BTC price might've come out of thin air?

Exactly! It's not sustainable at all and the downfall of Bitfinex/Tether will be a very big one for the cryptocurrency space.

How can this be with Tether existing? Does anyone really honestly think that USDT is legit?

Just about everyone knows that Tether is a ticking time bomb waiting to blow up the cryptocurrency markets. But for now Tether makes number go up and currently that’s the only thing that matters.

Tether would be silly to include in the index, but not sure how its existence affects crypto indices otherwise.

There have been theories and allegations that Tether is being used to prop up the price of various cryptocurrencies. When I last kept an eye on the wild world of cryptocurrencies, Tether was at around 4 billion USD in total, and now it has grown to 19 billion, while at the same time Bitcoin is at an all time high.

As long as Tether continues to exist, any cryptocurrency USD prices should be taken with a spoonful of salt.

Because it is almost certainly being used to artificially pump the price of BTC up.

The only question is: "has the market priced this in, so the current price is a floor and we're waiting for USDT to fall away", or "has the market not priced this in and a major shock will happen when that shoe drops?"
