Also, are there video games with ML-powered opponents or NPCs that'll act more like humans instead of the old-fashioned decision tree AIs? Seems about time. I know there are research projects that tried this for things like Starcraft 2.

Also saw Facebook's experimental Diplomacy AI. Wish that were usable the time we lost a player.

Diablo felt like work the time I played it

Seems like youtube-dl doesn't work anymore. I had to use a fork yt-dlp. Always makes me nervous hopping from one project to another like that, but seems like it's commonly used at least.

youtube-dl has been dead for many years now; it's a lot like XFree86, where the original project is a zombie with very few real users, but the original maintainers refuse to acknowledge reality and just shutter the thing, so newcomers get confused. Everyone's moved to yt-dlp now.

The author(s) got into legal trouble.

For providing a tool that lets people download YT videos? The same should apply to yt-dlp, but that project is hosted on github.com with no apparent problems. What's stopping the youtube-dl people from doing the same and just ignoring this silly court ruling?

The case is about downloading music or rather enabling others to do so ("Beihilfe"). GEMA really is quite terrible.

What's stopping them? Dunno, (the threat of) police showing up at the door? Shitty pop songs are not worth going to prison for.

Apparently this isn't stopping the yt-dlp people.

I am using the GUI version on windows https://oleksis.github.io/youtube-dl-gui/

Yeah, yt-dlp is the successor. I've been using it for years.

Yeah. I used to work with it a lot. It basically has similar problems as email but without the momentum. It's complicated to run an XMPP server that actually has all the features you'd want, including properly configured C2S and S2S auth, and even then you're missing important client-side features unless you get clients in agreement (see: iChat).

Imo they needed to be stricter about what constitutes a standard XMPP server, especially with security-related stuff. Look at how browsers managed to ban old TLS versions and discourage plain HTTP.

And less important but just annoying, XML was a mistake that they keep defending. Really only made sense for rich text message body, which nowadays nobody cares about either. I've seen a project where they just shoved JSON into it and called it a day.

If the tech market is dead, most markets are even more dead

They're usually about "pure emotional intelligence"

It's a win for American industry, same as a politician would say when a new factory opens or something. I don't know a less offensive way to put it.

He didn't remotely say the combative stuff I would say, that it is partially a zero-sum game where we should stay ahead of the curve.

The "this bill doesn't go far enough" thing is normally what politicians say when they don't want it to go in that direction at all. Anyway, I'm glad he vetoed.

I'm shocked that Sony even sold more than half the number of PSPs as the number of DSes.

Minecraft can do stuff with command blocks
