Wordpress and Gmail are both free and the market leaders. I'd bet that most people who use Wordpress don't care that it's open source, they just like the price and that it works well.
Yeah, I mean, if we're in a public place I'm gonna do my best not to upset you. If we're at your place, I'll leave; if we're at my place, you've gotta leave. If it's a bad enough disagreement we can take it to court and let someone objective sort it out. That's how we all get along.
You are right in saying that if we don't have better evaluation methods, it doesn't matter too much. The trouble is, should we just ignore the problems with current methods? It seems the equivalent of sticking your fingers in your ears and saying, "la la, I can't hear you."
