This article is obviously written by someone (at least mentally) under the age of 35. Always try to be cooler and more accepting than others? WTF. I gave that up years ago. There too much to deal with in life without worrying about what is cool.
Bad idea, imo. Sometimes you can tell that you want to share because you've already watched it. But, I'm glad they are trying to reduce spam. This just isn't a good way to do it.
Agree with what you said, but also think that Spencer's views on Java echo my thoughts on Java after having worked with a dynamic language for some years now after having worked for more than several years in Java. Java is too verbose for its own good, period. It has its place, but it sounds like Google needs to embrace change.
I'm so glad to hear this. This is more than a win for developers (almost) everywhere, this is deterrence for large companies that want to bully others with their legal team when almost everyone is saying what their legal team is doing is at best suspect and at worst a travesty.
First reaction to this for most including myself is that the U.S. is really f--ked. But if the U.S. found this out, odds are they had chips manufactured that looked like the Chinese version but really weren't, with the exception of some small detail, perhaps not on the chip but on the board, that would indicate that the chip was the "fixed" version.
But, this Frienemy war is not about taking advantage of these backdoors. That is the nuclear option. The war is about who has the potential to pwn the other.
The biggest problem with miles per gallon as advertised is that it is inaccurate. Having every vehicle be required to provide that information without having to buy a separate device should be required by law.
And every vehicle should keep track of the cost required for the gas added to it, and then both provide stats on gas usage in volume/day, mpg (or similar), and show an average of how much it is costing you per day to use it, perhaps pointing out things you are doing that waste gas, like you ran the air conditioner with the windows down, your tires are underinflated, you need a tune-up, etc.
The U.S. says it wants to curb unnecessary energy usage, but instead of making laws that would actually help its citizens in this regard, it wastes money refunding money spent on ridiculously overpriced cars and bails out auto companies that were destined to fail. There are good reasons why it does this, but it's crappy nonetheless.
Keep in mind quite a few people have done this before, bitcircle, 4hoursearch etc... spring to mind but DDG has actually done some innovations in the space and is still around. The fact that people know it will still be around next year encourages you to at least play with it.
