This reminds me remotely of a German startup that offered handmade plush toys from drawings. The page (https://www.ellapaul.de/) unfortunately returns a 404

Did you consider any other languages, like TCL? If yes, do you remember the pros and cons of that set of languages?

Was the first version of Redis not in fact written in TCL?

Oh, interesting, I didn’t know. ChatGPT “confirms” that a prototype was written in TCL

The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells

Highly recommend the series as well! Very fun to read

These are really fun, I’m on the fourth book now.

I agree. OTOH, why does it matter to select one of the options? How is this more than a blame game?

Mostly to get context, like ticket numbers, links to pull requests, all usually with the goal to understand the intentions of a specific piece of code.

I agree. Let's grant that SBB is more organized than DB. But given that Germany is 8 times as big as Switzerland and with 33,000 km has a significantly larger train network than Switzerland's 5,300 km, it's no surprise that trains accumulate more delays in Germany.

I don't remember there to be that much complaint about https://peps.python.org/pep-0352/ and from having worked on a large Python code base at that time, it was rather easy change.

Unrelated except it's the same company, reminded me of the failed SAP migration, https://www.retaildetail.eu/news/food/lidls-failed-it-projec...

At least they had the balls to back out

Seriously, this is impressive for a company of their size. Almost anywhere else it would be pushed through to preserve the status of whichever leaders championed the whole thing, to hell with the long-term consequences.

The repo is incomplete, a lot of files are missing. https://github.com/cynthia/WorldWideWeb seems to be a more complete snapshot.

NeXTStep was famous for rapid application development. The framework combined with Interface Builder, a GUI builder, is just magic. I read a quote a while ago, Berners-Lee saying that without NeXTStep he couldn't have built the project. Unfortunately I can't find any reference anymore.

Edit: Seems somebody else found it, see other comments.
