This might be a misunderstanding. The following tweet implies they’ve just tightened the standard for how sites are supposed to be configured as PWAs.

This person is incorrect and doesn’t know what he’s talking about. You need to look at the full video of it action to realize the difference in behavior from 17.3 and 17.4 beta 1 and beta 2

Both can be true. If what you did before doesn't work now and potentially drops your storage, the explanation doesn't matter. It could be a planned improvement in theory. It still broke things for people - literally dropped support for some PWA that mattered to people.

Some public CEOs comp packages are defined by them exceeding $SPY so boards do expect more than just the economic cycle.

50% of SPY constituents are going to beat SPY. That in itself doesn't imply the CEO is a meaningful factor in company performance.

This isn’t true because of the weighting. If apple doubles in value SPY will be up 8% from that alone. It’s easy to see a scenario where one massive company has an incredible year and every other company returns below the average.

Or, alternatively, one massive company has a bad year, and everyone else comes out smelling like roses.

On average, 50/50 is a pretty decent benchmark here.

it refers to a somewhat poorly named concept known as reverse ETL, something we started working on back in 2018 with our product Census (getcensus.com). We launched it on HN in 2020, though it's come a long way since then :-) https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23034642

Nice, definitely solves some problems I had in the past. I'll keep your product in mind, I like it very much.

we're hiring for this kind of work if you want to chat :-) boris at getcensus dot com

I really thought this game/book was lost in time. Glad to know there's a fellow pig herder fan.

Both the books (all of them) and the Sierra game were a very big deal to me. Weirdly, I've never seen the Disney movie.

I know where my copies are. I can see them from where I am sitting. (-:

Very cool to see. A lot of folks (Notion, Figma, Loom) use our service (https://getcensus.com) for this purpose if folks are curious to check out a SaaS version of the concept.

We support all the major data warehouses (incl. straight Postgres), connect to a bunch of different applications, and don't store any of your customer data!

Bonus: we recently added native support for dbt :-)

That’s a great question. I think of them as teams that a) help proactively onboard customers (ie ensure they get what they paid for) and b) monitor accounts to determine how to help them get the most from your product + upsell new features.

So it’s not quite customer support and it’s not quite cold sales. There’s healthy debate about the scope of the team though!

So nice to hear! That's precisely how we felt :-)

Thanks! We've been talking about that on the team. I kind of want to expose any table automatically as a pandas dataframe so that you could transform it with python on the fly and we'd take care of the execution (and then sync the result back to the apps). Do you have something specific in mind?

Very soon! Send me an email at boris@getcensus.com and I'll get you going asap!
