Get them a Mac and iPhone - tech support is available via Apple stores, via iMessage and you can call. A before folks bring in lock in, limiting discussion to tech savy. Forget about ecosystem lockin etc, you are optimizing for your family not for you.

People who aren't tech-savvy likely won't realize what they've given up by locking themselves into a single ecosystem, but the cost is still there.

(I don't necessarily disagree with your end-point, just the argument.)

What happens? They will get less returns not zero. This is not a company in the traditional sense that they will go bankrupt so they will be fine. From the article, they are spreading the risk over various companies so there are going to be homeruns. They are also focusing on the growth stage not seed so at this point there are some signals on product market fit. Linking it to tech employment, its similar to engineers focusing on growing companies knowing that the chances of payout are high from stock options is high.

This is similar to a securities line of credit(SLOC). Brokerages already have this. Am not getting how this is so different from todays system. M1 finance and E*Trade, IB all have SLOC. If you own a house you can get an equity line of credit. Either way you a borrowing against an asset that has some value. It just so happens in this case it’s Bitcoin. Is that the only difference?

Yeah the idea is the same except for bitcoin as the asset. Additionally no minimum asset amount. SLOC allow borrowing up to 35-50% of asset vs 80% or more. The interest rates are comparable tho.

It is precisely the same but provided in a decentralized fashion. This allows anyone to participate with any amount (theoretically).

This reminds of Ghost in the Shell, the anime. There is a concept of a barrier maze that has to be solved before gaining access. There is also a concept of an attack barrier if one tries to force their way into a system.
