I haven't used FB in over a decade, so maybe I am not up-to-date. While YouTube and FB are both machines to sell ads, I'd take YouTube over FB any day. I can pay YouTube a few dollars and avoid ads, YouTube is an insanely useful learning tool as long as I avoid politics/influencer-idiots and comments - is there any useful part of FB? Maybe marketplace, not sure. Is it even possible to avoid ads on FB?
I say this as someone with an extremely negative opinion of Facebook/Meta/Zuck: there are communities that only exist on Facebook, in the form of private groups. If you want to reach those communities, you have no other choice but to meet them where they are. Same problem with Twitter/X...
Wynn-Williams gets Zuck a chance to address the UN General Assembly. As is his wont, Zuck refuses to be briefed before he takes the dais
Holy moly! No matter what your feelings are towards the effectiveness of U.N, addressing the general assembly is a huge opportunity to stand out, send a message, do something good etc. What a waste
They gotta start somewhere, no? It is going to be extremely difficult (maybe even close to impossible) to dislodge the incumbents, doesn't mean they shouldn't try
The most depressing thing about such behavior from MegaCorp is that they are too lazy to even pretend to care. We meet lots of people in life who would appear sincere, talk sweetly etc, but it is all just a show, just acting. Now it is a different discussion on which is worse (acting like you care or just flat out being a dick) but acting takes some effort. These companies with near infinite money can't be bothered to even put in the slightest bit of effort - how much effort would it be to give a shout out to Keivan when they copied AppGet to make WinGet?
This is a nice idea. Only issue are the ads - the ad on the bottom right is bleeding over the photo, there are two video ads playing simultaneously... Makes it annoying to play
I work as a contractor and am managing a small team. I easily do the work at least two people in my team, in addition to managing ("babysitting") the team. While my pay is not 5 times their pay, it is most certainly higher than theirs.
But my most attractive trait is not that I work harder, it is that they can fire me at any point, without giving any reason or any notice. On top of it, they don't have to deal with any personnel issues - if I misbehave, they'd just fire me on the spot or complain to the agency and let me be their problem. No matter how hard I work, I rarely get a word of appreciation. They also don't have to do performance reviews, "rankings", pay discussions etc. Yes, it all comes at a higher cost, but it also removes all the pesky things that nobody wants to deal with.
Think of it like hiring a plumber even though the plumbing issue is small enough for you to fix yourself. You just don't want to do it
I wonder how much of this would happen in a place like Japan or Korea. I haven't been to those countries, but heard that they have higher standards of cleanliness and people generally don't litter etc
Not disagreeing with you, but there are 8 billion people (at least) on this planet, we all need something to do, no? There is probably only a fraction of work that is actually meaningful (growing food, healing others...) and a big chunk is probably junk work or mostly junk ("social media manager" - how many of these do we need and do we need 40 hours a week for this?) but these jobs also keep people employed, so maybe in that sense, they are meaningful?
