Omnigress developed a fresh view of the otherwise stalled industry approach to deploying and running software. Edge computing is a way to go!

I didn't read anything about edge computing in the project readme. Deploying a single instance would be the opposite of that.

Unless you mean edge as opposed to mainstream?

It's not currently spelled out in the readme, but our approach does lend for straightforward shipping of complete systems (data + code) to the edge because it's effectively just a replication of the database. We're working on further primitives that facilitate such an operational model.

We believe that a practical edge [backend] requires the presence of data next to the code, which is precisely what Omnigres promotes.

Does this mean omnigres could be used offline on mobile devices? Similar to an sqlite instance?

We are primarily talking about the backend side of this story at this time.

We'll see what the future will bring, as the real edge of computing is in user's hands.

There's a keen interest to get there for Omnigres applications, but the shape of that is still somewhat vague.

I'm looking for maintained alternatives.

Great idea! I hope to see improved search and size filtering in future versions. It's annoying to select the maker first and later model. It would be great if I can type the model, select year, and get results.

While I'm missing global mode my choice would be vscodevim.vim (1), mainly because it supports VScode in-browser mode such as github.dev and gitpod.io

Apple has quite strict virtualization constraints in its user agreement. I'm wondering if this is going to change any time soon.

This always comes up, but what does it actually prevent? Has Apple ever enforced it? It would seem likely that doing so would be hitting their power users.

They enforce it in their Virtualization framework: https://eclecticlight.co/2022/08/04/virtualisation-on-apple-...

And they specify it must be on Apple hardware.

They don’t enforce that though I don’t think, but I wonder if anyone has been caught or sued?

Haven't heard of any individuals being sued, but Apple did go after Psystar, who sold machines with macOS (Mac OS X back then): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psystar_Corporation

Americans doing plenty of real things to keep their government in check. There is no excuse.

I mean... Not really.

The military is widely unquestionably supported in US. Public is not even remotely trying to keep the covert and intelligence agencies in check... Remember how ATF sold AK47 to Mexican cartels?

The issue is willful ignorance on behalf of many americans. To the point that most aren't even aware that US intelligence is spying on allied leaders(Merkel's phone was tapped by US)

Can you list some?

Can you list some by Russians?

As an answer to the question of why Americans are better than Russians, saying that neither Russians nor Americans are equally bad at restraining their country's aggression isn't good.

You could get closer to an answer by counting the corpses.

Ukraine, Chechnya, Syria. Add to that inhuman treatment of civilians, unhinged army, mass rapes as terror means, bombings, chemical attacks, kidnappings, tortures. Putin wins it easily and we in Russia know this well. And he just started.

Not having one dictator for 20 years, for starters?

Burn in hell!
