When you have the urge to self-destruct, reach out and do something nice for someone else. It can be small, like wishing someone a Merry Christmas, or buying a stranger a coffee. Rinse and repeat as necessary.

Also:

- Exercise regularly

- Maintain a regular sleeping schedule

- Eat healthy (recognize when you are self-medicating with food)

- Make an extra effort to groom yourself (wear cologne, shave daily, clip your nails)

I really enjoy your comments. Would you be open to me reaching out to you? My email is also in my profile, if that’s easier.

Sure, I'll send you an email.

Interesting point. My impression is that YC/SV is a lot “sexier”, and that’s why people are drawn to Seibel rather than Greenleaf or French/Raven.

The PDF you linked looks incredibly dry; On the other hand the link in this post is very easy to digest and understand.

Just want to say thank you for sharing your thoughts. It is helpful to have different perspectives on this issue.

I recognize that I am my best self. Even at the worst parts of my life.

I stop saying I "should" do this or I "should" do that, and just let life run its course.

Not sure if that helps you, but I've been there man. Email me if you want to talk.

100% agreed. At the risk of sounding dismissive (not my intention) it doesn’t matter whether you’re a “good” programmer or not.

Stop trying to measure yourself or others, get in there and code.

I keep hearing that Google seems to be lacking in the enterprise sales area, but from what I’ve heard, G Suite seems to be doing quite well. What explains that?

G Suite basically sells itself and doesn’t really require an enterprise sales force in the traditional sense. This works because G Suite is implemented from the bottom up, i.e. individuals and workgroups begin using G Suite and then pressure management to adopt it department/company wide.

This is very different from large scale enterprise software or infrastructure sales (cloud in this case) where you need to respond to RFPs, establish a relationship with the C suite, run POCs tailored to the customer’s particular use cases, present a compelling product roadmap, convince the customer that you’re in it for the long term partnership, etc. These are not things Google currently excels at.

This reads like a hit piece. Yuck.

The author's previous article is titled "Facebook Betrayed America". Here's a nugget from this one:

But what did Sandberg expect when she hired a Republican opposition-research firm?
Immediately after, Sheryl is quoted saying she had no knowledge of hiring Definers.

The ny times piece didn't agree with your assessment of her involvement. the facebook reaction to the ny times article basically says we don't agree without any specifics, which means you can't point to any specifics. there are tons of these billionaries with good pr types out there who have managed to fool the world with how awesome they are. She's just been exposed as another person in that group.

If you were Sandberg, questioned about hiring a Republican opposition research firm, would you confirm it to the public, even if it'll make the company look bad? Of course not.

This story was not a hit piece. It follows the NYT piece, which is a thorough investigation. To say otherwise is to fall for Facebook's propaganda.

> If you were Sandberg, questioned about hiring a Republican opposition research firm, would you confirm it to the public, even if it'll make the company look bad? Of course not.

And that's perhaps a problem, because looking insincere hurts company image long term.

This seems super click-baity. I'm going to draw my own conclusions from the original NYT report.
