Fremont, CA - Engineers of all sorts, Interns and Full-Time

Redwood Systems is developing a web-enabled platform for powering and controlling LED lights in commercial spaces and datacenters. Our system collects a large amount of very granular sensor data and we use this information to save energy and increase our clients' productivity. Our engineers work closely with big-name clients to deliver solutions and shape the direction of our product. It's an awesome time to be working here.

We're about 50 people now and are hiring engineers for backend development, sales support, application development, manufacturing, and power systems development. See our full list of openings here: http://redwoodsystems.com/about-us/careers Interns are being hired in many of the same fields. Feel free to get in touch with me directly -- mball -at- redwoodsys.com

Are Google/Groupon/Facebook acting in this space? Wouldn't it be to their advantage to improve access to the web and bring in more users? Or is there still no ad money to be made in developing countries?

Redwood Systems -- Fremont, CA (sorry, no remote) http://redwoodsystems.com

We're a 50 person startup that makes an LED lighting controller and sensor system for commercial buildings. Our system saves a lot of energy and we get a ton of sensor information that's lately been leading to some interesting analyses and visualizations.. We're putting physical systems on the web and it's pretty exciting! There are Engineering openings in our UI, Embedded C++, Test, and Sales Applications groups http://redwoodsystems.com/about-us/careers. We're also looking for summer interns if you're still in school (contact me directly).

I'm relatively new and it's an awesome time to work here. We have big name clients in the valley and we're constantly working with them to make a better product.

Bit of a stretch to suggest any $10k of work is a step towards 'the continued betterment of our race.' Certain efforts will help certain entities. Many people's work worsens our 'human condition,' see the opportunity cost of weapons dev or plasma-gigajoule-laser tv research (: But I suppose that's subjective.

We make a unified power, control, and environmental sensing platform for LED lights in commercial buildings. We're looking for some interns to start in early 2011 or this summer. Great place to work for those interested in sensor systems, power system design, and user experience.

Feel free to get in touch, mball@redwoodsys.com

I really like the idea of showing the impacts of boycotts and protests and helping the organization of these actions (GrassrootsBoycott) -- have you put in any additional work/thought into this idea?

Yes, but I will work that out in a separate posting, that's too much for a comment and will take a couple of hours to document.

Here is the area on google maps: http://is.gd/euPUY

It's hard to speak to another's educational experience (I know I've been really fortunate) but is it really as apocalyptic as some of those paragraphs suggest?

"Conditioned to blurt out facts" -- "this period of indoctrination" -- "an educational system that clandestinely sets us up for jobs that could be automated, for work that need not be done, for enslavement without fervency for meaningful achievement"

Nuance is important in arguments and creating pathways for dialog even moreso. But maybe that's not the goal of an 'inspirational' graduation speech.. Despite the last paragraph.

Surely you, too, were once in high school--are not all of those phrases you quoted the exact sort of thing you would have said at that point? I was like that too, occasionally, and oooh did I feel like a clever fellow for thinking such radical thoughts.
