I seem to remember Tesla opening up a bunch of patents. As a guess, that should be near the top of the list

The terms of license under which the patents were opened up were full of poison pills no sane automaker would agree to.

I've seen some pretty right-wing stuff on WSJ in the last few months.

Centrist does not mean right-wing, nor does it mean just mixing both political extremes.

Hey, don't knock him. I'd never thought about it before. Being taught or corrected is great as long as people aren't dicks about it. Even then it has some value :)

I shall use this knowledge and endeavour to share it where possible.

Damn, did we ever get that one wrong.

This is not power. This is aid, planning, money, and ideally to show some semblance of leadership.

We have governors declaring they will seize medical equipment from its owners. We have mayors of major cities advocating for us to conscript medical personnel via the Selective Service. We have the President invoking the Defense Production Act and telling private companies to manufacture goods. We have governors and mayors and county-level medical officials across the nation outlawing religious services and declaring that it is illegal for people to leave their homes except under a list of officially approved circumstances.

Behold, the power.

I'd rather take on the commanding force [guard] of a US state than the federal government of the US. Again, it was designed this way intentionally.

Excitedly read title of article. Disappointed upon discovering it's not that type of club, nor that type of swinging.

Unfortunately, the businessman involved is a moron.

1D is a line or vector, I believe. A waveguide for atoms would probably still be considered 1D I guess.

that sounds better. I thought a point was 1D, a line was 2D thinking of a plot with X and Y axis, and a surface was 3D - but a totally flat surface would be 2D, and a totally straight line i guess is 1D. a point must be 0D.

Yeah, in this case dimensionality would refer to degrees of freedom, not the cardinality of the space.

As with so many things these days, the internet gives people the ability to speak to millions of other people. The idiots and extremists seem to garner more attention, and therefore, generate ad revenue; so they have an even louder voice. I don't think there are actually more idiots and extremists, but merely that the few that exist can get together and try to indoctrinate others into whatever bent world-view they have. (commented in the wrong place earlier)

I should also add that I remember seeing some poll of Americans and this sort of "political correctness" or whatever you wish to call it, was the primary reason people said they voted for Donald Trump. Nothing official, some news station or something, but still. It's not harmless.
