But then people move to safe long holds, and out of Fiat.

This is how we revert back to a barter economy, or one that uses gold/Bitcoin/etc... Since the Fiat currency is rapidly inflating.

There are lots of smart people worried about a sub 0 percent interest rate, or worry about stagnation. Not to mention my peers in every Industry talking about slowdowns or unprofitable years due to tariffs.

The only people who seem to be enjoying it are exploiting the bubble with high wages and investing companies.

And if you didn't take the investment, your competitors destroyed you.

Fiat currency is a weird thing.

Anti consumer policies should be punished, especially if it matters to you.

I could never handle this kind of abuse.

They did this to me. And I never went back to consoles or AAA producers.

Good. As a wannabe indie game developer, this pleases me.

Same. Pcmasterrace here. Gaming has never been cheaper or better.

I think I spent 200$ in 3 years of modern Gaming.

Consoles and AAA Games are all advertising/marketing.

Quite sad, I worked on one of these cars, and spent late nights getting my part ready on time.

Then I was a GM tariffs sacrifice.

My understanding is that 5G should fix the winter/rain issues, as you can calculate location more precise.

5G won't fix anything. The location precision is worse than what you can usually get with the latest GNSS receivers. And what happens when the 5G tower is down because a construction crew accidentally cut the backhaul fiber?

> And what happens when the 5G tower is down because a construction crew accidentally cut the backhaul fiber?

I assume the cars would stop and we would have to go back to driving them manually for a few hours or days

The goal is eventually to have vehicles without manual controls, so this won't be an option.

Outside of a few limited areas, that goal won't be achieved in our lifetimes.

Apropos of anything else, the tower knows where it is, unless it's mobile. Having no backhaul doesn't mean it can't be broadcasting / used for location information. They also (almost) always come with their own battery backup / generator.

I've always wondered why politicians here in Germany insist that you need 5G for autonomous driving. I thought tech companies just lied to them to get them to subsidize their 5G networks. Are you telling me 5G is actually used for geolocation? If so, I'd love to hear more.

5G hype is being driven by companies in telecommunications and networking. It’s absolute nonsense.

Location tells you where you are. It does not tell you what unexpected obstacles are in your path and how to avoid them safely. The latter seems to be where a lot of self-driving pipe dreams turn into nightmares.

Why would precise location data help with winter/rain issues? Is GM planning to maintain hyper detailed maps of the entire country? That doesn't seem like a workable solution.

This should start to be tracked.

I caught Aldi advertising with Reddits frugal board.

Young accounts, lots of Aldi Love.

That marketing company has gotten better.

I find it awful HN mods won't let this be discussed. Is HN manipulated? Why wouldn't it be?

We spend a lot of time addressing readers' concerns about the integrity of HN. I did so just this morning: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=20508960.

The main constraint is that answering these questions thoroughly is time- and energy-intensive. Since our resources are limited, this quickly eats into the other things we need to do to keep HN up and make it better. So we have to be careful how we engage. That mostly means answering users who have substantive questions and good-faith concerns, and avoiding getting lost in the forests that the wilder kinds of insinuations lead to. The internet is a gigantic Rohrschach test that is all too ready to supply whatever people want to see.

Would it be possible to add the invited page (https://news.ycombinator.com/invited) to the lists page? https://news.ycombinator.com/lists

It would be super helpful to also provide a 'lobbed' page. I didn't know about this practice, and I'm sure many other users don't know about this either. It's important in my opinion for the sake of transparency.

We'll add the lobbed page once it exists. The invited page probably doesn't belong there since the distinction between invited and reupped is just an accident of timing.

Perhaps, as with other potentially open-ended discussions, schedule and time-box this?

A quarterly/half-year transparency report or audit post, say, discussed at the time of posting, perhaps.

It makes me tired and depressed just to read that. Nor would it help; it would generate an order of magnitude more questions and objections and meta.

What works is personal interaction with particular users.

Hence the time-boxing.

Open outcry isn't the best Q&A / conversational model. It's HN's default.

The Scholastic Instruction model has merits: lectio, meditatio, quaestio, disputationes

Considering the Apple tax is 2x the price, why not get a regular product and replace it with a new product when it breaks?

Maybe the product doesn't break, and you save money, and don't have to deal with Apple.

Or the product breaks, and you get the latest and greatest instead of a year old referbished.
