Procedural generation is miles away from what these LLMs are doing. It’s not just coming up with a random maze/map for a fetch mission. Right now, it can generate a novel quest, with all of its characters, come up with a unique set of mission goals and theoretically generate those assets and characters (atleast in 2D). Turns out, all this self-expression or whatever is cheap.

Not in this context of self-expression. Neither are intentional, both are broad strokes.

Technologically? Yes, you're right, very different.

But in output? It's still generative.

“Intentional” is a weasel word in this context. It means very little in terms of the end result. Humans making art is generative as well even all the way back to cave paintings which were interpretations of animals in nature.

No, it isn't. Do you really think Alfred Hitchcock would leave his film up to others, let alone a machine? No. It wasn't his vision, thus it wasn't his self-expressive intent. Read about auteur theory.

That's not what generative art is, mate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generative_art

It depends. If you buy fresh fruits and vegetables and meat, eggs, milk from a local farm and use only glass/copper/stainless steel for all your cooking and drinking needs you can do pretty well at an individual level. Having water from your own well helps too but that may not be available to everyone.

> But when you dig into the details, it seems like the regulation may not have much effect on climate change at all.

So you’re going to handwave away the justification for the main crux of your argument.

When I say "dig into the details", I mean "look for evidence". I looked for evidence that this would have a substantial effect on the climate and was unable to find any.

In fact, the most anyone has come up with in this thread is the number 0.0028 (or about 0.3%):

Of course it works. It always works unless you have have a segment of society actively telling your kids they don’t have to listen to their parents and to be hyper individualistic. How do you think most of Asia, South America, Africa, and the vast majority of rural America function? Following your dreams may work out in a small sliver of cases but for the vast majority advice from well meaning and reasonable parents helps guide them towards fulfilling, high percentage of success lives.

I disagree. Being an actor is intensely social, physical and plays perfectly into what is traditionally, and correctly, considered a well lived life.

That's a good point, you may be right.

As an actor, I love performing on stage! I don't imagine that I will ever be famous though.

Being an influencer isn’t intensely social?

I imagine influencers are far more parasocial than social.

Acting involves attunement with fellow actors and being part of a larger creative process and work. It's a lot of showing up in person and figuring out how to work with others.

Influencers need only stay at home, work a camera, and manage parasocial fan conversations. There's no inherent in-person physicality of relationships and all the socializing that entails, nor even the need for peer relationships or any connection to a larger work that the influencer is a part of. At its core it's only a streamer and some people they probably don't know watching.

Depends on the kind of influencer. I see plenty of influencers travelling the world and mingling with plenty of people on corporate dime.

I think it's important to make the distinction between people who stream video games versus professional influencers.

Disclaimer: I don't rate either.

It does depend on the influencer, but the vast majority of twitch and TikTok influencers are pretty home bound.

Perfect time to use a pin nailer.

Customers used to do this unintentionally with staples, and my boss was too cheap to buy a TDR tester for a long time

Disgusting. I just watched some videos and it seems to be mostly used as a soft attack on bicyclists, environmentalists, pedestrians, people on the left etc. Some “anti-environmentalists” were literally sticking their face right next to the exhaust while it was rolling coal to make a point lol. That’ll show them.

Hard disagree. Anecdotally, everyone in my friend group uses chatGPT/Bing many times a day.

I’m sure he’ll get picked up some other more despicable propaganda rag.

YouTube’s video player is the best and most responsive video player online. I don’t think I want any UI changes around it.

YouTube TV is for watching broadcast and cable television. It has a different UI.
