Personally, I think using automobiles as a blueprint for autonomous transportation is horrifying and preposterous. The first auto I know of went 10mph in 1886. Engineers have had over 100 years to iterate on the concept yet people are still dying. Somehow, Ubers and Googles think they can distill this kind of refinement into a decade or two of software "engineering". Insanity.

We should focus on transporting goods and services autonomously at a fraction of the speeds. It should be about efficiency and impact, not getting one human from A to B.
